Dan
HazukaDan Hazuka's life story goes from rags to riches. From the South
Omaha slums to the mansion of heaven that he inherited when he found his Lord
and Savior Jesus Christ. Dan's early life was very turbulent.
There were six children in the family and times were very tough. His dad struggled
with alcohol and gambling, and his mom did her best to hold the family together.
There were many moves, many fights and much heartache. As
a young teen Dan became a street kid and traveled with the wrong gang. This resulted
in his being arrested at age 17 and a wise judge giving him the choice between
being sent to jail or the military. Dan chose the Army and was quickly sent off
to France where he spent the next 2 1/2 years and did a lot of growing up. Once
out of the service, he returned to the only life he knew and purchased his first
business, a pool hall and then a tavern. This lifestyle with all the drinking
and gambling brought him material success but never filled the void in his life
that only Jesus can fill. Dan married and soon had a family to support, but the
lifestyle contributed to the loss of both. After being served with divorce papers
in late 1979, he finally hit bottom. His dear sister, Joan,
who had been praying for Dan for years, had the privilege of leading him to the
Lord. Although Dan knew he was saved at that time and did make some lifestyle
changes, it took several more years and much discipline from the Lord to finally
get him on the right path. In 1983, Dan began seriously studying the Word of God
and began applying God's principals to his entire life and business. Dan
at this time was the owner of Quik Sandwiches, a prepackaged sandwich company
that serviced a 150 miles radius of Omaha, and he proudly displayed the Bible
verse Matthew. 4:4, "Man shall not live by bread alone----," on all
his trucks. It was this witness that caught the eye of Ken Korkow who had just
moved to Omaha to begin the ministry of CBMC. He called Dan, they had lunch, and
the rest is history. Dan joined what was then called a "Caleb"
group, which was the forerunner of the present Forum Groups. There Dan met godly
business leaders who were instrumental in nurturing and guiding him in his newfound
faith. As Dan put into practice the concept of Spiritual giving, his business
grew and prospered. He became active in many Christian ministries and served on
numerous boards. In 1999 at the age of 56, Dan was faced with
the diagnosis of prostrate cancer. He believed that God was using this to show
him that He had another direction that He wanted him to take in the future.
Dan
decided to sell his business and concentrate on healing his body. This he did
and, today he is cancer free and dedicating his life to the work of the Lord.
Since God had used other Christian business leaders to mentor him, he believed
that God could use his business experience and passion for CBMC FORUMS to
help other men grow in the Lord.
Today, Dan is Director of CBMC FORUMS
for the Omaha Metro Area, and God has richly blessed his work. Dan is whole,
healed and one happy man who willingly shares his life story with one and
all.
